If you are one of my Facebook friends, you might have seen me share a memory this week. Just over a year ago, I announced that I was opening Frill Gift Boutique. I remember that day—the exact moment I pressed “post”—so vividly. I was excited, nervous, and hopeful.
I was also, if we’re being honest, ENTIRELY clueless about what I was getting into. I didn’t even have the keys to the shop yet; I hadn’t ordered a single display shelf, and definitely didn’t know how to efficiently wrap something in cellophane.
I did, however, know something! I knew what I liked, and I made a commitment to only carry lines and products I would personally stand behind. I wanted Frill to feel like me—like an extension of my home—and something my home is FULL of is candles.
Why candles? For one, I love the ambiance of a candle in a beautiful jar. But more than that, I think fragrance is so special. I love how a simple scent can transport me back in time—to a friend’s house, sacred memories with a loved one I’ve lost, a vacation, my childhood home… the list goes on.
I’ve made it a personal mission to give my house a signature scent, and according to my friends, I’ve done it! All of you seem to think the shop has one, too—I’ll never get tired of hearing “it smells like Frill!”
While I wish I could bottle that exact smell for you, the truth is it’s a mix of the roughly 60 different candle and home fragrance scents we carry in store. I like to say I’ve got the smelliest place in town, and I truly believe there’s a perfect candle for everyone in Frill.
If you’re looking for a starting place or just want to try something new, here are a few of my absolute favorite scents:
1. One Night in Rio – Glasshouse Fragrance
Glasshouse is full of incredible scents, but this is the one that speaks to me. I love a citrus-forward fragrance, and Rio is just that. It has notes of passionfruit and lime, and just a touch of sweetness. It’s the perfect blend for me.
A crowd favorite. I call Volcano a “safe scent.” That is, if you want to get someone a candle but don’t know their exact preferences, Volcano is a safe bet. We have a huge offering of Volcano, including Pura refills, countertop spray, laundry detergent, and linen spray. A one-stop shop if you want to give your home a fragrance makeover!
3. Orleans Tea – Bourbon Royalty
This one is a tea scent. It’s light, clean, and so fresh. Bourbon Royalty is a Louisiana line (we love) and Orleans Tea is inspired by a stroll down Chartres Street. Orleans Tea is also available in laundry detergent and is an excellent choice if you want something lighter, fresher, and maybe not as “feminine” as other detergent options.
Warm and grounding, this is my favorite candle to wind down with in the evening. It was a unanimous pick from Charlie and Artem, and honestly—it’s one of my top recommendations.
5. Kyoto in Bloom – Glasshouse Fragrance
Warm. That’s the first word that comes to mind. It’s my favorite candle to light at the end of the day. I had Charlie and Artem both come in and smell all of the Voluspa- this is the one they chose.
I never dreamed I’d be so passionate about candles… but hey, here we are. Helping someone find their perfect scent is one of my favorite parts of the job. With 60+ options in store, I know we’ll find the one for you.
