It’s safe to say I’ve had a jewelry issue (if you want to call it that) for many, many years. If you read the blog a few weeks ago, you know the story about me packing nearly 10 lbs of jewelry on vacation one time.
Growing up, I had a fishing tackle box that served as my jewelry box. It was the only way I could stay semi-organized and find a spot for everything. I still have old jewelry stored in parts of that tackle box — and I refuse to give it up!
I have 9 ear piercings, never have less than 4 bracelets on my left wrist, and draw many shocked faces when I tell customers how I usually wear 2 sets of BudhaGirl bangles at a time.
So, I always laugh when my friends show me their wrists or necklace stacks and ask me, “Is this too much?” My response is ALWAYS the same: “You’re asking the wrong girl.”
I’ve had a lot of these same conversations in the shop surrounding Julie Vos — women who’ve always worn white gold or sterling silver but really love a piece in yellow gold… and now, women who’ve invested in the yellow gold collection but love the new silver. To which I say… “Wear it all!”
Don’t get me wrong, there are some fashion rules I won’t break. You will not catch me in a pair of white pants after Labor Day and before Easter Sunday. But matching all my metals? That’s an idea I’ve never fully gotten behind.
As I sit here and write this, I’m wearing one gold necklace and one white gold. There’s a mix of silver and gold on my everyday bangles, and I have on both gold and white gold earrings. It just doesn’t bother me — and here’s why:
For me, jewelry falls into one of two categories:
✨ It’s fun, or
💛 It’s sentimental.
Most days, I’m wearing a mix of both.

For example, I have a necklace I wear every day that was made from some of my late grandfather’s jewelry — it’s white gold and very special to me. I never take it off. So, if one day I want to wear my (FUN) gold Julie Vos necklace with a bright pink stone in it, those necklaces are just going to have to work together. Why choose?

I have another piece that belonged to my great-grandmother, Jewel. It’s yellow gold, and on the days I choose to wear it, I don’t worry about my everyday bracelets not being yellow gold.

At the end of the day, it’s just jewelry! That’s what makes it great — it’s not serious. Just wear what you love. Who cares if you have on silver and gold, or if your belt buckle doesn’t match your earrings?
You can even wear white jeans at Christmas and I won’t judge you.
If it makes you happy, wear it.
If you love it, WEAR IT.
Break the rules a little — I’ll be right there with you.
